As a program developed by the National Weather Service (NWS), Skywarn relies on trained volunteer spotters to provide real-time, ground-level weather reports that improve the accuracy and timeliness of official warnings. These reports help emergency management teams, first responders, and the public prepare for and respond to dangerous conditions like tornadoes, flash floods, and severe thunderstorms.

However, effective emergency communication requires more than just volunteers—it requires infrastructure, training, and resources. That’s where N5BRZ Cares comes in. As a nonprofit organization, we provide the means to fund Brazos County ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service), ensuring that trained operators and emergency communicators have the equipment, technology, and support they need to relay Skywarn reports efficiently.
